The Proof Tapered Rod Extension Set provides a simple way to support and extend rod sections while applying finish, epoxy, or other coatings near the ferrule.
Each extension features a gradual taper that fits inside a comprehensive range of blank diameters, allowing the rod section to be held from the inside rather than clamped around the blank itself. This leaves the ferrule completely exposed and accessible while the section rotates in a rod dryer.
The faceted surface of each extension is intentionally left lightly textured rather than polished smooth. While a smooth extension may look more refined, it can also have a tendency to slip inside the blank as it rotates. The combination of the faceted profile and textured surface provides additional grip, helping the extension stay securely seated without requiring excessive pressure.
The set includes three overlapping taper sizes to accommodate a wide range of fly rod blanks. Simply select the extension that provides the best fit, insert the tapered end into the blank, and secure the opposite end in your dryer chuck.
The extensions are lightweight, rigid, and designed specifically for rod-building applications. A 1/4" socket in the end of each extension also provides compatibility with future Proof accessories.
